Job Overview:

A respected law firm based in West Palm Beach, FL, is seeking a seasoned Patent Attorney with deep experience in patent prosecution, particularly in the life sciences sector. This position involves supporting a broad range of intellectual property activities, including patent preparation, global prosecution coordination, and strategic portfolio management. The attorney will engage with cross-functional teams and contribute to high-impact IP matters in the biotech, pharma, and medical device industries.

Duties:

• Collaborate with the firm's IP group to manage a wide variety of patent matters across technological disciplines

• Conduct patentability assessments for innovations in life sciences and related technical domains

• Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. patent applications, ensuring compliance with USPTO standards

• Coordinate with international associates on global patent prosecution strategies

• Perform legal and scientific research to support patent filings, opinions, and due diligence

• Provide strategic input on IP portfolio development and risk mitigation

• Partner with clients, internal legal teams, and business stakeholders on IP-related matters

• Participate in interdepartmental projects and communicate regularly with external counsel

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent prosecution at a law firm or in-house legal department

• Demonstrated focus on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical device technologies

• Active Bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (or eligible to sit for the Patent Bar soon)

• Exposure to mechanical or electrical patent matters is a plus

• Comfortable interpreting and analyzing complex scientific material

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences-related discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology)

Certifications:

• U.S. Patent and Trademark Office registration (or pending eligibility)

• State Bar license in good standing

Skills:

• Strong writing and drafting proficiency with attention to detail

• Effective communicator with both legal and technical professionals

• Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

• Sound judgment and analytical thinking in complex legal and scientific contexts
