Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Associate or Counsel specializing in environmental law to join its Chicago, IL office. This role requires at least three days a week in the Downtown Loop office. The firm focuses on regulatory, transactional, and litigation matters across various industries, offering a collaborative and hands-on approach to complex environmental challenges.

Duties

• Advise clients on federal and state environmental laws, including compliance, permitting, and enforcement matters.
• Manage and support environmental due diligence projects for real estate and corporate transactions.
• Represent clients in administrative and judicial proceedings involving environmental regulations.
• Research, draft, and review legal memoranda, briefs, and transactional documents.
• Maintain strong, responsive client relationships and contribute to business development efforts.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and admission (or eligibility for admission) to the Illinois Bar.
• Minimum of five years of environmental law experience, preferably at a law firm, agency, or both.
• Demonstrated expertise in litigation and substantive areas such as CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, or related state statutes.
• Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
• A proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach.

Education

• J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission (or eligibility for admission) to the Illinois Bar.
