Job Overview:

The Senior Benefits Senior Counsel will play a critical role in providing comprehensive legal counsel and support in employment benefits. The role involves working closely with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and optimize benefits and compensation strategies within the firm. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in employment benefits law, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced legal environment.

Duties:

  • Provide legal guidance and support on various employment benefits matters, including qualified retirement plans, health & welfare plans, and executive & deferred compensation arrangements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support benefits and compensation aspects of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions.
  • Assist in ERISA litigation matters and provide counsel on withdrawal liability issues, where applicable.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory developments and industry trends in employment benefits law to ensure compliance and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Conducted legal research, drafted legal documents, and provided advice and counsel to clients on complex benefits-related issues.
  • Manage confidential information and sensitive situations with tact and discretion.
  • Identify and analyze legal issues, make sound decisions, and initiate appropriate actions and solutions.
  • Respond proactively to unexpected challenges, developing innovative solutions while maintaining professionalism.
  • Foster positive relationships and teamwork across all levels of the firm.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Minimum of 5 years of significant benefits experience in private practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of qualified retirement plans, health & welfare plans, and executive & deferred compensation arrangements.
  • Experience supporting benefits and compensation in M&A transactions is preferred.
  • ERISA litigation and withdrawal liability experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
