Patent Litigation Associate Attorney

Profile

A law firm is seeking a talented and experienced Patent Litigation Associate Attorney to join their team in Chicago. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of patent litigation experience with a background in electrical or mechanical engineering. Additional experience in trademark and/or copyright litigation would be advantageous. The role requires excellent academic credentials, outstanding research, writing, and communication skills, as well as the ability to take and/or defend depositions, write briefs, and engage in oral motion practice before the courts. Bar admission is required for this position.

Duties:

• Conduct legal research and analysis related to patent litigation matters.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Assist in deposition preparation, conduct depositions, and defend depositions as necessary.
• Engage in oral argument and motion practice before courts.
• Collaborate with partners and senior associates on case strategy and client communication.
• Manage case files and ensure deadlines are met.
• Attend hearings, trials, and other court proceedings as required.
• Provide legal advice and counsel to clients on patent litigation matters.
• Assist in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes.

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of patent litigation experience.
• Background in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• BSEE/BSME preferred.
• Additional experience in trademark and/or copyright litigation is a plus.
• Strong academic background with a JD from an accredited law school.
• Bar admission or eligibility to waive in.
• Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
