Job Overview

A law firm seeks an accomplished Senior Counsel to join its family law practice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The ideal candidate will have the vision to build a book of business, mentor team members, and contribute to shaping the family law practice in the region.

Duties

• Independently represent clients in family law matters, including divorce and child custody issues.
• Draft, review, and file legal documents such as petitions, motions, and agreements.
• Manage a dynamic caseload with efficiency, ensuring timely progress and exceptional client service.
• Conduct in-depth legal research to support cases and stay current on family law developments.
• Collaborate with colleagues to deliver a team-based, holistic approach to client representation.
• Mentor and provide strategic direction to paralegals, support staff, and associate attorneys.
• Engage in client development, community outreach, and networking efforts.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active license (or eligibility) to practice law in South Dakota; additional licensure in Nebraska and/or Iowa is highly valued.
• 5-7+ years of experience practicing family law.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage client relationships and a growing book of business.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license (or eligibility) to practice law in South Dakota.
