Candidate would be representing the in complex criminal prosecutions involving white collar crimes in the insurance and securities industries. As a prosecuting attorney, would initiate criminal cases on behalf of the people of the State. Would include managing cases from referral through final judgment; including performing case evaluation, preparation, and management. Would represent the in pre-trial and evidentiary hearings and trials; ensure effective communication with defense attorneys, court personnel, victims and family members, witnesses and other interested parties. Would evaluate cases by reviewing documentation, conduct necessary legal research on applicable laws, interview witnesses or persons with knowledge of the cases, gather evidence, and determine most appropriate actions to be taken. Would also require you to review and prepare legal documents, opinions, forms, contracts and other legal agreements. Would be responsible for preparing evidence, exhibits, and legal documents necessary to litigate cases, in addition to providing consultation, making recommendations, giving appropriate legal advice, and handling settlement negotiations. Litigation duties include drafting all pleadings, engaging in written discovery, drafting and filing motions and briefs, making court appearances, and taking and defending depositions. Would also be representing the CSI in administrative proceedings under the Administrative Procedure Act. Occasional appellate advocacy is required in both district court petitions for judicial review and in Supreme Court appeals. Would be researching and investigating referrals on matters concerning regulatory compliance; advising agency staff on administrative matters; researching and preparing proposed legislation; testifying at legislative hearings; preparing legal opinions; and drafting administrative rules. Additionally, there may be times when are appointed to serve as a hearing examiner over administrative cases.
