Civil Rights Investigator and Trainer

Duties: Support the mission, goals and objectives of Oregon Health & Science University in all of its mission areas. Designing, developing and administering discrimination and harassment training, developing education tools and conducting internal outreach to community members. Will be a liaison with stakeholder and partner departments who have institutional training responsibilities. Addressing equal opportunity complaints lodged by employees, students, patients, volunteers and others affiliated with the University, handling reasonable accommodation requests for disabilities and religious beliefs, advising managers and others regarding civil rights matters. Provides support to the entire community, including employees, students, patients, managers and the University’s Human Resources and Legal Departments. Provides independent and proactive counsel all levels of management in the areas of civil rights, Title IX and retention of a diverse workforce and affirmative action compliance and planning. Develop, organize, coordinate and conduct training in the areas of prohibited discrimination such as race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, and religion under the guidance of the Director(s). Researching and designing engaging training materials and activities, administering annual training plans for students, faculty and employees, marketing available training opportunities, prepare educational materials, partner with stakeholders to conduct trainings, research and recommend new training methods to Director(s). Conduct New Student Orientation, Nuts and Bolts series, and others as assigned by the Directors. Administer the equal opportunity complaint process, including Title IX, disability and religious reasonable accommodation request processes independently and in accordance with federal, state and local laws and the University’s policies. This includes independently conducting and leading collaborative investigations, facilitations, meetings with appropriate personnel, corresponding with medical providers, and writing reports and recommendations. Investigations include but are not limited to interviews, document review, background checks, and other fact-finding efforts. Investigations and the informal resolutions of complaints frequently require leadership in analyzing and managing complex situations and providing leadership to customers by recommending plans of action and strategies for resolving conflict. Work effectively with emotionally distressed and/or uncooperative individuals in a compassionate, professional and courteous manner to defuse and manage situations involving intense conflict. Display skill in working as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels. Under the guidance of the Directors, gather information, analyze evidence, organize and prepare responses to charges of discrimination from outside agencies, including the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the U.S. Department of Education. Represent in conducting internal outreach to diverse populations. Provide leadership and modeling in enhancing diversity and cultural competency.
