Job Overview: A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Trial Attorney specializing in insurance defense to manage a full caseload of civil litigation matters. This full-time position is ideal for an attorney with at least ten years of experience who can represent defendants in high-exposure cases. The role requires trial expertise in venues across New York City, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing lawsuits, preparing pleadings, conducting depositions, and attending various legal proceedings, including arbitrations, conferences, motions, and trials.

Duties:

• Analyze complex lawsuits and prepare necessary answers and pleadings
• Represent clients in court, including depositions, conferences, arbitrations, motions, and trials
• Collaborate and build rapport with clients, claims teams, and the legal team
• Serve as trial and/or appellate attorney for cases of significant exposure and complexity
• Provide legal advice and strategic direction to claims teams on high-exposure cases
• Ensure compliance with legal reporting and case management requirements
• Work independently in file handling and maintain communication with the legal management team
• Manage a large caseload efficiently, ensuring all court appearances are attended, both virtually and in person

Requirements:

• Minimum of 10 years of litigation and trial experience in insurance defense
• Licensed to practice law in New York State, with admission to Federal Court in the Eastern and Southern Districts
• Proven experience handling high-indemnity matters, including motor vehicle, premises, UM/SUM, and subrogation claims
• Expertise in the rules of evidence and civil procedure
• Ability to meet minimum billing requirements

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in New York State
• Admission to Federal Court in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York (required)

Skills:

• Strong trial and litigation skills, with a focus on insurance defense
• Excellent written and oral communication abilities
• Proficiency in legal case management software, video conferencing, and paperless environments
• Expertise in motor vehicle, premises liability, and UM/SUM insurance law
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining high standards of client service
