Accounting Manager
The candidate will manage the daily operations of the accounting department and will work closely with the firm’s Managing Partner, Director of Operations and other finance and billing personnel in all matters with respect to financial results. Maintain the general ledger structure including the Firm's Chart of Accounts, entity structure, and all general ledger interfaces including all subsidiary ledgers. Take full "ownership" of the general ledger and assure its accuracy. Develop a detailed understanding of the firms’ accounting processes and other related accounting systems to ensure that the systems are used to their full capabilities including necessary maintenance. Maintain financial security by enforcing internal controls and identifying additional controls that may be needed. Ensure accurate and efficient processing of transactions and financial reporting by all offices. Ensure accurate and timely monthly, tax year-end and book year-end reporting. Account analyse and reconcile including providing both summary and detailed results. Maintain subsidiary ledger information including where appropriate, worksheet that support the amounts reflected in the GL. Ensure accurate and timely monthly and year-end closings and the reporting of monthly financial information. Support budgeting and forecasting activities by working closely with the Managing Partner, Director of Operations and firm Accountant and furnish necessary analysis for various cost centers and profits centers. Collaborate with other Finance Department members to support overall department goals and objectives. Monitor and analyze department work to identify and develop more efficient procedures and uses of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy and to ensure that all tasks are timely completed. Respond to inquiries from management regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.. Provide training (and cross-training) to new and existing personnel including the establishment of goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff. Champion productivity improvements. Bachelor's degree in accounting is required. Master’s degree and a CPA license is preferred. Should have 6+ years of progressive experience in a professional services firm at a mid/senior level. Previous management experience in law firm setting is preferred. Previous law firm insurance defense billing experience is a plus. Accounting Software Implementation experience is preferred. Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks and other accounting software is required.
