Job Title: Junior Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a Junior Associate with a focused interest in international arbitration. This opportunity is ideal for those aiming to build a long-term practice in global dispute resolution. The position centers on high-stakes commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, offering early responsibility, hands-on client engagement, and regular collaboration with senior attorneys. Duties:
Support senior attorneys on commercial and investment treaty arbitration matters involving multinational entities and sovereigns
Conduct in-depth legal and factual research using a variety of international sources
Prepare draft memos, pleadings, legal correspondence, and advocacy materials
Assist in compiling and analyzing evidence, including witness statements and expert reports
Maintain communication with clients, co-counsel, experts, and arbitral tribunals
Help manage case files and procedural timelines across multiple jurisdictions
Contribute to internal know-how initiatives and knowledge sharing
Requirements:
Licensed to practice in Washington, DC, or eligible for Special Legal Consultant (SLC) status
Demonstrated interest in international arbitration through prior work experience, research, or training
Familiarity with arbitration procedures under leading institutional rules (e.g., ICC, ICSID, LCIA)
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
Prior exposure to public international law or transnational litigation is a plus
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification
Certifications:
Active legal license in good standing
DC Bar membership or eligibility for admission
Skills:
Strong written communication skills with clarity, brevity, and persuasive style
Analytical capabilities to assess complex factual and legal scenarios
Effective oral advocacy and the ability to present confidently before a tribunal
Skilled at managing legal documents, deadlines, and evidence presentation
Multilingual proficiency is an asset, particularly in languages used in international commerce
Familiarity with legal research tools and cross-border document review systems
Ability to engage effectively with clients and colleagues across different cultures and jurisdictions
