A law firm in Atlanta, GA, is actively seeking a Senior Tax Attorney with over 5 years of relevant tax controversy experience. The successful candidate will handle all aspects of a client's case, providing expert guidance on matters related to tax examinations, appeals, litigation, voluntary disclosures, offshore asset compliance, innocent spouse claims, and collection alternatives. This role involves direct client communication, partner collaboration, and effective interaction with tax authorities. The Senior Tax Attorney will also play a mentoring role for associate attorneys and case coordinators.

Duties:

  • Handle all aspects of a client's case, from initiation to closure.
  • Communicate directly with clients and other counsel, ensuring an excellent client experience.
  • Work on tax controversy matters at both federal and state levels.
  • Provide input and feedback on case strategies.
  • Interact with representatives from the IRS and State revenue agencies.
  • Prepare and analyze client financial reports.
  • Evaluate cases, assess risks, and counsel on complicated tax problems.
  • Track time spent on each case, meeting an annual billable hour requirement of 1500 hours.
  • Perform 96 hours of business development annually.
  • Mentor associate attorneys and manage case coordinators.
  • Delegate research to law clerks as required.
  • Prepare correspondence and legal documents for the IRS and state revenue agencies.
  • Utilize Bloomberg and other platforms for legal research.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant tax controversy experience in a law firm, public accounting firm, or corporation.
  • Active Bar license.
  • Proficiency in Adobe and MS Office, with expertise in Word and Excel.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional experience with legal time reporting and billing practices.
  • Strong technical abilities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar license.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Adobe and MS Office, with expertise in Word and Excel.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical abilities.
