Job Overview:
A law firm based in Southfield, MI, is seeking a dedicated attorney licensed in Ohio to join its remote legal team. The role involves providing both full and limited-scope representation for clients facing consumer debt lawsuits. The focus is on non-complex litigation, settlement facilitation, and oversight of debt resolution matters. The position allows for remote work from any location, offering autonomy in managing caseloads while being part of a collaborative virtual environment.

Duties:

• Represent clients in civil debt collection matters initiated by creditors or third-party debt purchasers

• Offer limited-scope legal guidance, including reviewing and refining pro se court filings prepared by support staff

• Facilitate voluntary settlement agreements with opposing parties to avoid protracted litigation

• Conduct periodic assessments of client files and review proposed settlement offers

• Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure timely updates and strategic guidance

• Attend court hearings when necessary, with the option to arrange for substitute counsel as needed

• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth case processing and compliance with legal standards

Requirements:

• Active license and good standing with the Ohio State Bar

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil litigation

• Prior exposure to consumer protection, debt collection defense, or financial dispute resolution

• Competency in remote work tools and digital legal systems

• Strong writing and editing skills for legal document review

• Capability to independently manage a high-volume caseload

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to practice law in Ohio (mandatory)

Skills:

• Solid understanding of Ohio civil procedure

• Proficiency in client negotiations and settlement drafting

• Ability to simplify complex legal topics for clients

• Strong time management and organizational abilities
