Job Overview:
A law firm in Massachusetts is seeking an experienced and dedicated Family Law Attorney to join its growing team. This position is ideal for a skilled negotiator with courtroom experience in Massachusetts family law. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation skills, the ability to empathize with clients, and the knowledge to handle a variety of family law issues such as divorce, custody, and high-conflict cases. The role offers flexibility with the option to work virtually while also requiring travel to courts within Massachusetts.

Duties:

  • Draft all types of pleadings, including complaints, motions, affidavits, and pretrial memorandums.
  • Create both short and long-form financial statements for family law cases.
  • Handle discovery requests and responses.
  • Conduct depositions and represent clients in court for motions and trials.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel throughout the process.
  • Manage a caseload of 35-45 cases, ensuring each case is progressing according to the client’s needs.
  • Navigate high-conflict family law issues such as narcissism, domestic abuse, manipulation, substance abuse, parental alienation, and trauma survivors.
  • Work collaboratively with supervising attorneys, paralegals, and client experience coaches to provide the best service to clients.

Requirements:

  • Valid and current license to practice law in Massachusetts (Rhode Island license is a plus).
  • Experience in Massachusetts family law litigation.
  • Ability to travel to Massachusetts courts for hearings and trials.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a passion for client advocacy.
  • Ability to juggle a caseload of 35-45 family law cases.
  • Ability to handle high-conflict family law issues effectively.
  • Effective communication skills to work with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Massachusetts State Bar.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of family law in Massachusetts, including divorce and custody proceedings.
  • Strong courtroom and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to empathize with clients while maintaining a professional approach.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage a high volume of cases.
  • Familiarity with issues such as domestic abuse, parental alienation, and substance abuse in the family law context.
  • Ability to work with a support team to achieve firm goals.
