Assistant General Counsel, Agency Growth

The candidate will draft and review contracts to minimize risk and apply consistent legal terms and protections with an emphasis on insurance agencies and managing general agency strategic agreements. Serve as primary legal support to key cross-functional and business stakeholders. Manage at least one attorney. RESPA, general privacy, TCPA, and FCRA compliance for the organization. Joint Venture and Key Partner negotiation, documentation, and governance support and oversight. Research, identify, and mitigate legal risks across the organization. General corporate transactions including leases and M&A transactions. Agency compliance including support for training, review, delivery, and support for admitted and non-admitted insurance and non-insurance products. General product counseling for Hippo’s agency team as well as Hippo’s new ventures and non-insurance products teams. Meet legal objectives. Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal, compliance, and business areas. Deliver quality legal products on a timely basis. Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining multiple projects and responsibilities. Should have 10+ years of comparable law firm experience; strong proven background in corporate law and contract negotiation and drafting; Insurance background; excellent negotiation and communications skills; analytical ability; strong attention to detail; works independently but knows when to collaborate; current license to practice law (JD); overall broad corporate and insurance legal knowledge; in-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizations; ability to develop legal strategy and objectives; ability to anticipate legal issues or risks and to “see around the corner; Self-motivated and directed; the ability to collaborate is a must; strong intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn how to help others solve problems; Flexible and willing to do what is needed to get great work done.
