Job Overview:

A prominent law firm based in New York City seeks a seasoned Patent Attorney with a strong foundation in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical device technologies. This role offers an opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary intellectual property team on cutting-edge matters in the life sciences domain. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in patent prosecution and will be instrumental in shaping and protecting the firm’s clients’ innovations globally.

Duties:

• Analyze innovations to determine patentability across multiple life sciences technologies

• Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. patent applications

• Coordinate with international partners on foreign patent filings and prosecution

• Assist in IP due diligence, freedom-to-operate assessments, and portfolio strategy development

• Conduct scientific and legal research relevant to patent law and client innovations

• Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and internal stakeholders on IP strategy

• Liaise between departments and maintain relationships with external patent practitioners

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent prosecution in either a law firm or corporate legal department

• Background focused on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• Admitted to at least one State Bar and in good standing

• Eligible to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO registration or near-term eligibility required)

• Additional exposure to mechanical or electrical technologies is advantageous

• Demonstrated ability to handle complex IP matters in a collaborative setting

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences-related field (such as molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related discipline)

Certifications:

• USPTO Registration (or demonstrated eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar)
