Associate Counsel

The candidate will assist in providing legal counsel to AMA business units assigned. Draft, review and negotiate supporting legal documents, including appropriate agreements and related documentation. Research and analyze legislation, regulations, and court decisions of interest to the AMA. Assist supervising attorneys in providing legal counsel to assigned AMA business units on a variety of legal matters. Primary responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of business agreements and related documentation supporting the AMA’s mission-related, revenue-generating, and supporting activities; drafting and reviewing communications and regulatory filings, performing legal research, and preparing memoranda and other documentation, all as assigned by supervising attorneys. Assist in the assessment of legal and business risk of various actions to support AMA initiatives, policies, and procedures. Legal research and other responsibilities as assigned by supervising attorneys. Should have a J.D. from an accredited law school. Should have 3-5 years of attorney experience, including practice activities corresponding to the Essential Functions/Responsibilities described above. Should be licensed to practice law in Illinois. Legal experience in healthcare matters are preferred. Experience in effectively collaborating in cross-functional business and legal teams to address and resolve legal issues to achieve the desired business unit outcome. Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills with a focus on practical outcomes. Superior interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to interact well with clients to gain their respect and confidence to build a trusting relationship is needed. Excellent verbal, written, communication, and research skills with an ability to persuade and communicate confidently is required.
