Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm located in Atlanta is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney specializing in Biological Sciences. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a solid foundation in patent law, particularly in the life sciences. The firm is looking for candidates with expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting various patent analyses, and supporting IP due diligence and litigation. The ideal candidate will work with innovative technologies such as gene editing, cellular therapies, and molecular diagnostics.
Duties:
Draft and prosecute patent applications related to biological sciences, including gene editing, cellular therapies, antibody-based therapeutics, and molecular diagnostics.
Conduct patent validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
Support intellectual property due diligence, patent litigations, and post-grant proceedings, such as IPR, PGR, and interferences.
Collaborate closely with clients and colleagues to provide strategic IP advice.
Engage in various IP matters within the life sciences sector, ensuring comprehensive and effective protection of clients' innovations.
Requirements:
Minimum of 1 year of substantive experience in patent prosecution and related intellectual property matters.
Experience with patent validity, non-infringement, freedom-to-operate analyses, and post-grant proceedings.
Proficient in patent litigation and IP due diligence processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
Education:
An advanced degree in Biological Sciences (Ph.D. preferred; M.S. with relevant industry experience also considered).
Degree in fields such as Biology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, or Virology.
Certifications:
Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Admission to a State Bar (Georgia preferred).
Skills:
Expertise in patent prosecution, including drafting and filing patent applications.
Deep understanding of the biological sciences and their intersection with intellectual property law.
Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on teamwork and client interactions.
High attention to detail and the ability to think strategically about intellectual property protection.
