Deputy Attorney General
The candidate serve as 1 of 5 Deputy Attorneys General assigned as in-house counsel to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. Duties include representing Commission Staff in utility rate cases and other litigated administrative proceedings, preparing pleadings, discovery, and settlement documents, and otherwise coordinating the presentation of Commission Staff case. For the Commissioners, Deputies prepare post-hearing decision memoranda, and opinions, orders, and notices. Other duties may include reviewing and drafting contracts, rules, policies; and advising on employment matters, public records law and open meeting law issues, and other legal issues arising at the Commission. Should have active Idaho State Bar license (or ability to obtain active license by start date), with two years of post-law school clerking or legal practice preferred. Strong writing and editing skills. Ability to work independently, and to work well with others (including engineers, accountants, utility analysts, economists, and other professionals). Knowledge of utility regulation can be acquired on-the-job. Familiarity with government practice, administrative law, appellate court practices, economics, finance, accounting, and antitrust would be helpful.
