Job Overview

A leading national law firm is seeking a Cybersecurity & Class Action Associate Attorney for its Chicago office. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on complex data breach litigation and privacy-related class actions in both federal and state courts. Attorneys in this position will handle high-profile cybersecurity matters, advise clients on regulatory obligations, and contribute to the defense of cutting-edge legal issues in a collaborative, hybrid work environment.

Duties

  • Assist in defending privacy and data breach class action lawsuits filed nationwide

  • Conduct legal research and interpret state, federal, and international privacy laws

  • Draft responses to regulatory investigations related to data breaches

  • Prepare and respond to written discovery; take and defend depositions

  • Collaborate with expert witnesses and litigation teams on technical matters

  • Draft briefs, motions, and other litigation documents

  • Support large-scale e-discovery efforts and case organization

  • Work closely with senior attorneys to develop case strategies

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of complex litigation experience in federal and/or state courts

  • Familiarity with data breach and privacy-related class actions (e.g., BIPA, VPPA) preferred

  • Experience handling class action litigation is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and litigation tasks

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois (or eligible for prompt admission)

Skills

  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills

  • Strong knowledge of state and federal rules of civil procedure

  • Organized and detail-oriented with strong time management skills

  • Team-oriented with a proactive, collaborative approach to litigation

  • Comfortable managing large volumes of e-discovery and digital documentation

  • Ability to assess case strengths and formulate legal strategies
