Job Overview
A law firm seeks a Tax Controversy Counsel to join its Tax practice group in New York City. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in federal and state tax controversy matters and the ability to manage a broad range of issues independently.

Duties

• Represent clients in federal and state tax controversy matters.
• Handle IRS and state audits, examinations, and administrative appeals.
• Manage collections matters, penalty abatements, and installment agreements.
• Draft protests, responses to Information Document Requests, and legal pleadings.
• Collaborate effectively with clients, taxing authorities, and legal teams.

Requirements

• 8-10 years of relevant experience in a law firm, government, or similar environment.
• Experience with U.S. Tax Court and other tax litigation preferred.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Ability to navigate complex subject matter quickly and effectively.

Education

• J.D. required.
• LL.M. in Taxation preferred.

Certifications

• Active bar admission in the jurisdiction of practice.
