Job Overview:
An international law firm is seeking a full-time, USPTO-registered Patent Agent to join its Electronics & Software team. This role focuses on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the software domain, supporting high-value clients across a range of industries. The position offers an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals to work closely with attorneys and clients in the development of strategic intellectual property portfolios.

Location:

  • San Francisco, CA

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications involving software-related innovations

  • Work with attorneys and clients to develop and execute patent strategies

  • Conduct patentability, prior art, and freedom-to-operate analyses

  • Review technical disclosures and participate in inventor interviews

  • Assist with client counseling and portfolio management

  • Provide technical and legal documentation upon request (e.g., transcripts, writing samples)

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution

  • Demonstrated expertise in software, computing, or related technical areas

  • Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with legal and technical professionals

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following (or related) disciplines:

    • Computer Science

    • Computer Engineering

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Mathematics

    • Physics

Certifications:

  • Must be registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO Reg. No. required)

Skills:

  • Familiarity with technologies including:

    • Cloud computing

    • Cybersecurity and encryption

    • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

    • Bioinformatics

    • Mobile applications

    • Databases

    • Networking and communications systems

  • Strong patent drafting, analytical, and legal research skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks
