Insurance and Reinsurance Associate Attorney

A law firm in Rochester, NY is seeking an Insurance and Reinsurance Associate Attorney with 2 to 6 years of experience in insurance coverage and commercial litigation. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of insurance coverage issues, including professional liability, general liability, and directors and officers insurance policies. They should have extensive experience in civil litigation, including drafting legal documents, managing discovery, handling depositions, and representing clients in court. The successful candidate will also have experience with business development and client management, as well as the ability to independently manage cases. Excellent academic credentials and strong research and writing skills are essential.

Duties:

• Analyze and interpret insurance coverage issues related to professional liability, general liability, and directors and officers insurance.
• Handle insurance coverage disputes and reinsurance matters, providing legal advice and representation.
• Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, dispositive motions, and discovery requests.
• Manage all aspects of the discovery process, including drafting and responding to discovery requests and handling discovery motion practice.
• Conduct depositions and represent clients in court appearances, trials, and other legal proceedings.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, managing cases independently from inception to resolution.
• Engage in business development activities to attract new clients and grow the firm’s insurance and reinsurance practice.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff to develop effective case strategies and ensure comprehensive case management.
• Stay current on industry trends, legal developments, and changes in insurance and reinsurance laws.

Requirements:

• 2 to 6 years of experience in insurance coverage and commercial litigation.
• Strong understanding of insurance coverage issues, including professional liability, general liability, and directors and officers insurance.
• Extensive experience in drafting legal documents, managing discovery, conducting depositions, and representing clients in court.
• Preferred experience in business development, client management, and independent case management.
• Excellent academic credentials with a demonstrated ability in legal research and writing.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar or eligibility to practice in New York.
