Job Overview: A law firm in Detroit, MI, is seeking an Associate Attorney to focus on drafting and prosecuting patent applications that are intricate to clients' global patent and intellectual property (IP) strategies. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to conduct freedom-to-operate and landscape analysis and gain exposure to preparing patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement opinions.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications that align with clients' global patent and IP strategies.
• Conduct thorough freedom-to-operate and landscape analysis.
• Prepare patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement opinions.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients to provide legal counsel on patent matters.
• Perform legal research and analysis to support case strategy.
• Attend hearings, meetings, and negotiations as required.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and documentation.

Requirements:

• 2-4 years of patent law experience.
• Technical background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Admission to the Michigan Bar and U.S. Patent Bar.
• Excellent academic credentials.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Bachelors or advanced degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.

Certifications:

• Admission to the Michigan Bar.
• Admission to the U.S. Patent Bar.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of patent law and intellectual property concepts.
• Exceptional legal research and analytical skills.
