Senior Counsel I, In House Counsel
The candidate will support complex environmental litigation proceedings, including active participation in all aspects of litigation strategy execution, project management to ensure timely receipt of deliverables and coordination among members of large interdisciplinary team, and efficient control of outside counsel costs. Duties: To manage daily legal requirements associated with complex environmental projects, including review of project documents and negotiation of related agreements and orders. Provide advice and counsel to clients in various business units regarding regulatory compliance requirements. Coordinate project issues to manage communications and build consensus among interdisciplinary internal and external stakeholders. Must have J.D. from an accredited college or university. Should be a Member of the New York Bar with 9+ years of environmental legal experience, including detailed knowledge of federal and New York environmental laws, such as the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, federal Clean Water Act, New York Environmental Conservation Law and New York Navigation Law. Should have strong knowledge of contract and commercial law principles, including negotiation strategies and management of commercial contract disputes. Must have Strong knowledge of complex environmental litigation, including project management skills associated with efficiently controlling outside counsel costs and fees and assuring timely receipt of deliverables and coordination among members of large interdisciplinary team. Should have strong knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and experience providing advice and counsel to clients in various business units. Must have project management experience regarding daily assignments and deliverables in support of large environmental projects and experience with alternative dispute resolution strategies, settlement negotiations and mediation. Should have solid written and oral communication skills and ability to work with all levels within the organization and to manage projects with interdisciplinary internal and external stakeholders Member of the Massachusetts or Rhode Island Bar a plus and knowledge of insurance coverage or real estate a plus.
