Cobb - Poultry Selection Worker

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, including holidays

Hours: 4:40 am – 2:40 pm – Start and end times may vary.

Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Summary :

Engaged in assisting with the selection of birds at approximately six weeks of age based on conformation, physical attributes, family data and movement of birds within the complex. Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Assist with the selection of up to 2500 pedigree birds daily by identifying gender, catching, scanning wing band number, and audit market birds for wing bands. Monitor ventilation and light. (35%)

Assist with properly identifying the coop birds are assigned to (30%)

Maintain clean foot pans in assigned boot room, weekly sanitation of selection breakroom and all equipment used during selection process. Observe condition of farm structures & equipment and recommend needed maintenance and repairs. (15%)

Assist in set-up for selection by loading empty coops into house, placing catch frames in pens for easier bird access, hanging lights for better visual, setting up scales and scanner, making coop labels, placing coops in pens and running needed cords. Insure dead birds are disposed of properly each day at the end of selection (10%)

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: assist with moving birds from brood house to feed conversion or dissection and wash/disinfect vehicles; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements :

The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment :

Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, with assistance, up to 50 pounds (items such as bird coops, tables and tools). May be required to occasionally move up to 300 pounds such as stacks of bird coops. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces (i.e. concrete floor, shavings); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climb/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, extreme dusty, wet and cold environments.

Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and company issued footwear are required. Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.

Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Lysol, Bleach, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, etc.

Safety: Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
