Counsel or Partner-level Commercial/Business Litigation Attorney

A law firm is currently seeking a Counsel or Partner-level Commercial/Business Litigation Attorney to join its team in Poughkeepsie, NY. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing issue/claims memos, drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, preparing and defending motions, and handling cases from start to finish, including trials and appeals. The ideal candidate should be licensed to practice law in New York, have 7+ years of litigation experience, possess strong research and writing skills, and be comfortable in a courtroom setting. Experience in commercial/business litigation or employment litigation is required, and familiarity with high-asset matrimonial divorces or trust & estate litigations is helpful.

Job Overview:

The Counsel or Partner-level Commercial/Business Litigation Attorney will take a leadership role in handling a wide range of litigation matters. The position involves preparing issue/claims memos, drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, defending motions, and managing cases from inception to resolution. The attorney will have the opportunity to handle trials and appeals and must possess strong research and writing skills along with the ability to strategize effectively.

Duties:

• Prepare issue/claims memos, conduct issue spotting, and research claims and defenses.
• Draft pleadings.
• Outline and prepare discovery requests and responses.
• Review client discovery, opposing party, and third-party discovery.
• Research, draft, and prepare and/or defend discovery motions, including oral arguments.
• Prepare for, conduct, and/or defend depositions.
• Research and draft memos regarding evidentiary issues and in-limine motions.
• Prepare all facets of motions to dismiss and summary judgment motions.
• Handle cases from start to finish, including trials and appeals, with support.

Requirements:

• Licensed to practice law in New York.
• 7+ years of experience with litigation in New York State courts and/or Federal courts.
• Strong research and writing skills.
• Comfortable in a courtroom setting.
• Experience with commercial/business litigation or employment litigation.

• Enjoyment of depositions and court conferences.
• Prior law clerk or big law firm experience is encouraged.
