Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking an Innovation Attorney to support legal technology adoption, generative AI integration, practice improvement, and client-facing innovation initiatives. The position serves as a bridge between practicing attorneys and innovation professionals, helping legal teams improve service delivery through technology, workflow optimization, process improvement, and knowledge management. The role requires an attorney with significant large law firm experience who can translate legal, technical, and operational concepts into practical solutions for attorneys and clients.

Duties:

  • Lead legal service delivery improvement initiatives involving workflow design, process optimization, technology implementation, and operational best practices.
  • Evaluate legal workflows, resource utilization, service delivery models, and industry trends to identify opportunities for greater efficiency, consistency, and client value.
  • Partner with attorneys and practice groups to develop and implement technology-enabled legal solutions.
  • Advise legal teams on practice innovation, legal technology, process improvement, and service delivery strategies.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, portals, and other tools that provide matter teams and clients with useful data and insights.
  • Capture and utilize matter, experience, and practice data to improve future legal service delivery.
  • Support collaboration platforms and solutions involving clients, local counsel, and other external parties.
  • Manage innovation projects from initial planning and scoping through implementation and completion.
  • Develop project plans, coordinate stakeholders, manage timelines, and track milestones and outcomes.
  • Coordinate projects involving attorneys, paralegals, business professionals, and other internal resources.
  • Support the adoption and integration of generative AI and other legal technology within practice groups.
  • Identify and develop practical AI and technology use cases aligned with attorney workflows.
  • Assist with piloting, evaluating, and scaling technology-enabled solutions.
  • Monitor technology usage, gather attorney feedback, and recommend improvements to increase adoption.
  • Provide attorneys with individual coaching, troubleshooting, and guidance regarding AI and legal technology tools.
  • Support change management efforts to incorporate new technologies and processes into everyday legal practice.
  • Identify gaps in practice workflows, knowledge resources, and legal content.
  • Maintain accessible and consistent practice resources that support efficient legal work.
  • Assist with knowledge management initiatives, including experience data collection and resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with research, information, and other internal teams to incorporate useful content into legal workflows.
  • Develop and deliver training, demonstrations, workshops, presentations, onboarding materials, and written resources.
  • Create practical training materials focused on real-world legal technology and innovation use cases.
  • Develop case studies, innovation materials, portal content, and other resources supporting business development.
  • Assist with client presentations, seminars, proposals, RFP responses, pitches, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Participate in broader innovation projects and share best practices across the organization.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience practicing as an attorney in a large law firm.
  • Experience managing projects or process improvement initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate workstreams and complete projects within established deadlines.
  • Experience supporting attorneys, clients, or internal teams through training, change management, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with legal technology, emerging technology, and generative AI applications in legal practice.
  • Understanding of project management, process improvement, and legal service delivery principles.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, technology adoption, and client service.
  • Experience working effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented professional environment.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution.
  • Active bar admission in good standing in a U.S. jurisdiction.

  • Familiarity with project management platforms such as Asana, Monday.com, Microsoft Project, or similar tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with automation, reporting, and client-facing dashboard technologies is advantageous.
