Job Description:
General Summary:
The Disability Support Services (DSS) Manger acts as the initial point of contact for all inquiries or services related to undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities. Primary responsibility for evaluation and coordination of reasonable accommodations and support, including supervision of student workers, management of required documentation, and budget management. Collaborates with key campus stakeholders and serves as an advocate for students with disabilities. As both a resource to and advocate for students, the Manager understands the structural barriers which have historically disadvantaged first-generation students, LGBTQIA students, non-traditionally aged students, students with disabilities, and students of color.
Job Duties:
Student intake and Case Management: Conducts intake interviews with prospective and newly admitted students and provides ongoing case management for currently enrolled students. Acts as the initial University point of contact for all inquiries or services related to undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities.
Accommodation Coordination: Provides management of all campus accommodations including but not limited to: evaluating and recommending reasonable accommodations and support, notification of course instructors, education technology and media needs, campus housing, campus facilities, and any other department to ensure accessibility. Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates DSS service personnel including sign language interpreters, captioning services, readers, scribes, proctors, etc.
Supervision of Student Workers: Responsibility for supervision of the Disability Support Services (DSS) student workers in support of regular DSS tasks and in coordination of produced materials in alternative formats. Includes but is not limited to: hiring, training, evaluation, scheduling, resourcing, budgeting, all logistics, and empowering student workers to manage independently on as many of these items as practicable. May include making DSS student workers available for broader Academic Support Center tasks, as available.
Record Management and Documentation: Manages all aspects of Disability Support Services documentation, including oversight of student records with strict attention to confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA regulations and all other applicable privacy laws.
Coordination with Campus Partners: Works with Housing, Residence Life, faculty, Student Financial Services, and other campus departments to support student accommodation needs and to fairly and reasonably interpret and apply rules and regulations while advocating for the needs of students with disabilities. Elevates advocacy issues appropriately and as needed. Working with the Assistant Director for Learning Support Services, meets regularly with the 504 Coordinator to ensure good collaboration and continual clarity of roles and responsibilities.
Budget Management: In collaboration with the Academic Support Center and Testing Coordinator, Assistant Director for Learning Support Services, and Director of the Academic Support Center, provide day-to-day management and general oversight of the Disability Support Services portion of the Academic Support Center budget.
Disability Support Advocacy: Provides general staff development to faculty and staff regarding disability issues in promotion of an institutional climate supportive of students with disabilities. Conducts at least a once annual review of DSS process, procedure, and documentation to ensure the best support of students. Remains current on regular trends and current best practice though participation in DSS professional organizations.
Support for Underrepresented Students: Understands and remains current on the unique needs of first-generation students, LGBTQIA students, non-traditionally aged students, students with disabilities, students of color, and other underrepresented student groups. Contributes to a culture of continuous learning and development. Identifies and advocates for changes in process, requirements, and policy which inequitably create barriers to student success.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree.
1-3 years of experience in a relevant area of higher education.
Computer literate with word processing, email and internet applications, data-entry and database functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in disability services at the post-secondary level.
Familiarity with basic equipment and services used to support students with disabilities.
Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Background in an integrated administrative computer environment; SCT BANNER, and spreadsheet applications.
Additional Information:
Position will remain open until filled.
Salary: $24.18 per hour, $50,292 annually
This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
