Job Overview

A leading international law firm is seeking a mid- to senior-level Finance Associate to join its Financial Restructuring Group in New York. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of leveraged finance and restructuring, supporting a sophisticated client base that includes private credit and debt funds, ad hoc lender groups, financial institutions, corporate borrowers, and private equity sponsors. The position combines traditional lending and capital structure management with exposure to special situations, distressed credit, and in- and out-of-court restructurings.

Duties

• Handle a wide variety of debt financing transactions, including:

  • Acquisition financing (especially middle-market sponsor-backed deals)

  • Term loan and working capital facilities

  • Unitranche financings

  • Commitment letters and sponsor term sheets

  • Intercreditor and subordination agreements

• Represent clients in new loan originations and refinancings

• Support financial institutions, funds, and sponsor clients in managing existing capital structures

• Advise clients on special situations, distressed investments, and workout strategies

• Participate in both in-court and out-of-court restructuring matters

• Collaborate with restructuring, litigation, and corporate teams on cross-disciplinary transactions

Requirements

• 4–6 years of legal experience in debt finance and/or financial restructuring

• Substantial experience advising on leveraged finance transactions

• Familiarity with private credit market and middle-market lending structures

• Interest in and willingness to grow in distressed credit and restructuring matters

• Prior experience in special situations or workout transactions is a plus but not required

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

• Admission to practice law in the State of New York

• Member in good standing with the applicable state bar

• Strong drafting and negotiation skills related to credit agreements and related documents

• Ability to manage complex, high-value transactions with minimal supervision
