Insurance Associate Attorney

A law firm in New York City is seeking an experienced Insurance Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 3-4 years of experience focusing on insurance and reinsurance law, with a strong background in regulatory and transactional work within the insurance industry. The role involves handling litigation matters, including depositions and court motions, and requires excellent academic credentials and client management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct legal research and provide advice on insurance regulatory issues and transactional matters.
• Draft and negotiate insurance-related contracts and agreements.
• Manage insurance litigation cases from inception through resolution, including drafting pleadings, discovery requests, and motions.
• Take and defend depositions, and argue motions in court.
• Communicate with clients and provide strategic legal advice in insurance matters.
• Collaborate effectively with partners and senior associates on complex insurance cases.
• Stay updated on developments and changes in insurance laws and regulations.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• 3-4 years of relevant experience in insurance and reinsurance law, preferably at a boutique or national/international law firm.
• Strong understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks and transactional procedures.
• Proven litigation experience, including courtroom experience and motion practice.
• Excellent academic credentials and strong writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with clients.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in complex insurance coverage disputes.
• Familiarity with insurance policy drafting and interpretation.
• Previous experience working with sophisticated clients in the insurance industry.
• Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
