International Patent Paralegal Clerk (IPP Clerk)
The candidate will monitor the IPP’s docket in advance to ensure basic procedural due dates and extensions of due dates are current; send updates to the docketing department as needed. Under direction of IPP, prepare time-sensitive form letters to clients and foreign associates necessary to complete formal requirements in foreign patent offices. Assist IPP’s in appropriate response to client requests and to foreign associates regarding formal requirements and/or bibliographic details. Ensure accuracy of formal documents being sent to clients for signature. Research status of formalities and filings using the firm’s electronic client file management system, and follow-up with foreign associates as needed. Check status of applications using foreign patent office websites. Under direction of IPP/attorney, research and prepare cost estimates for filings in various countries. Prepare letters to clients providing cost estimates and requesting instructions, which will be sent by the attorney. Under direction of IPP, prepare and file responses with the PCT via USPTO website. Order formalized drawings from drafting department and review for accuracy prior to filing. Order certified priority documents and certified assignments via the USPTO website. Ensure receipt by investigating delays or following up on orders with the USPTO. Submit conflict check requests to open electronic client files and new matters in docketing and billing systems. Scan documents, rename, and file appropriately in the firm’s electronic client file management system. Prepare FedEx packages enclosing original documents to various foreign associates. Complete other duties as assigned by IPPs, attorneys, or supervisors. Previous legal experience, particularly foreign patent experience, is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong proofreading, spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills. Must be efficient, accurate, timely, flexible and have excellent attention to detail. Able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Team player and a positive attitude is a must.
