Municipal Attorney

A law firm seeks a qualified Municipal Attorney in South Nyack, New York. This full-time position is suited for an attorney with 3 to 4 years of experience, specifically interested in local government, municipal law, public employment labor law, and municipal prosecution work.

Duties:

• Handle municipal prosecution in local justice courts, including:
  • Investigating violations of local ordinances and laws.
  • Drafting accusatory instruments and engaging in motion practice.
  • Organizing and sharing discovery materials.
  • Negotiating plea bargains and preparing ex parte applications, such as administrative search warrants.
  • Conducting evidentiary hearings and trials.
• Engage in related litigation, arbitration, and other legal proceedings.
• Attend municipal board meetings and justice court sessions, which may require evening availability.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 to 4 years of legal experience in municipal law.
• Admission to practice law in New York State.
• Strong interest in local government and public employment labor law.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active membership in the New York State Bar.
