Associate Attorney (Full-Time, Remote with Occasional In-Person in California)

Kaedian LLP seeks a motivated attorney for the civil litigation department in our California office. Our firm specializes in employment, business, and commercial litigation representing companies, business owners, and executives in state and federal court. Our caseload consists primarily of employment and business litigation matters, primarily on the defense side. We are not panel counsel for insurance carriers. We also provide businesses with employment law advice and counsel, conduct internal investigations, and conduct compliance audits and trainings.

The position involves regular court appearances, law and motion drafting, direct client work, conducting and defending depositions, document productions, and engaging in discovery. While sometimes court appearances, client meetings, and depositions will occur in person, this position is otherwise remote. We hold regular team meetings through videoconference, and this position will include collaborating with other team attorneys, as well as paralegals. The ideal candidate can work up a case from start to finish, develop legal strategy, and be comfortable taking the initiative to obtain results.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral advocacy skills
  • Work independently on an active litigation matters
  • Propound and respond to written discovery
  • Draft and respond to pleadings and motions, including demurrers, motions to compel, motions for summary judgment/adjudication, motions to quash, etc.
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Accurately track, prioritize, and complete tasks and ensure compliance with upcoming deadlines
  • Work collaboratively with the team and proactively address issues
  • Meet and confer with opposing counsel
  • Communicate effectively and bring a positive attitude to the work environment
  • Submit accurate and timely billing
  • Work effectively in a predominantly remote work environment

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar
  • JD from accredited law school
  • Proficiency with the Code of Civil Procedure, California Rules of Court, and the Evidence Code
  • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment including prompt responses to team and case-related communications and on-time attendance for meetings, court appearances, and case events
  • Respectful and professional communication style

 

PREFERRED Skills:

  • At least 3 years of litigation experience, including time focusing on employment and labor law

 

COMENSATION AND BENEFITS

Compensation range: based on experience: $125,000 to $200,000 plus annual discretionary bonus
