The candidate handles all phases of criminal prosecution from investigation through grand jury, trial and the appellate process; Provides legal advice, counsel and assistance to local prosecutors and law enforcement entities, analyzes complex factual and legal issues and develops evidence through witness interviews, civil investigative demand responses, subpoenas, depositions, or other discovery. Prepares cases for trial; represents the State’s interest in prosecution of human trafficking and transnational/organized crime cases. Performs legal research and reports findings and conclusions, trains less experienced staff; prepares or supervises the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents. Develops and provides training on human trafficking for law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, probation officers, medical personnel, members of industry and the public. Helps to enact legislative mandates, works on policy issues, becomes a subject matter expert on the laws on human trafficking. Reviews and has input on proposed bills, drafts proposed bills and amendments for legislative consideration, testifies before the legislature. Performs related work as assigned. Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions. Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information. Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity. Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D. required. Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas. Member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas required. 5 years’ full-time experience working in the following field as a licensed attorney: Criminal Prosecutions required. Knowledge of law and legal principles and practices relevant to the prosecution of criminal cases required. Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making required. Skill in effective oral and written communication required. Skill in conducting effective research required.
