Job Overview:

A law firm based in Sacramento, CA is seeking a dedicated Immigration Intake Associate Attorney to join its immigration division. This key position acts as the initial legal touchpoint for prospective clients, offering strategic consultations and overseeing intake operations. The role includes daily collaboration with a dynamic immigration team and management of intake paralegals and support staff. Duties:

  • Conduct in-depth legal consultations with prospective clients to determine case eligibility and strategic direction

  • Lead and supervise a team of intake specialists and contract document preparers, ensuring accuracy in case information and documentation

  • Coordinate with internal review teams by delivering detailed insights from client intakes

  • Oversee and assign newly initiated client matters

  • Participate in hiring and onboarding processes for legal intake personnel

  • Communicate complex immigration concepts clearly to both clients and internal teams

  • Educate potential clients on available immigration pathways, including deportation defense and family-based petitions

  • Periodically review immigration applications and offer revisions as needed

  • Occasionally assist in preparing clients or witnesses for immigration interviews or hearings

  • Conduct legal research and case evaluations to identify applicable immigration benefits

  • Support the drafting and filing of legal memoranda and briefs across a range of immigration matters

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in immigration law

  • Full professional fluency in both English and Spanish

  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate legal concepts with clarity and empathy

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred

  • Background in consultative sales or client intake is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and advance multiple cases simultaneously

  • Familiarity with immigration categories including family petitions, humanitarian relief, naturalization, and deportation defense

  • Experience with legal case management systems preferred

  • Skilled at issue escalation and presenting well-reasoned solutions to leadership

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in good standing

Skills:

  • Bilingual communication (Spanish/English)

  • Legal research and analytical writing

  • Case strategy development

  • Client intake process design and supervision

  • Cross-functional team collaboration

  • Professional presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of USCIS and EOIR procedures
