Duties

  • Prepare draft patent applications and incorporate scientific aspects of inventions.
  • Draft responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices.
  • Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions.
  • Investigate general and specific technologies as needed.
  • Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.
  • Identify and analyze complex patent issues and implement solutions.
  • Communicate with inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office regarding patent applications.
  • Interact professionally with clients, lawyers, and employees at all levels.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks efficiently under time constraints.
  • Stay updated on technology trends and make recommendations.
  • Undertake continuing education to maintain accreditation.
  • Enter, maintain, and analyze data for reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, material science, or related field preferred; Master's or PhD in a related field is advantageous.
  • Qualified to sit for the patent bar; preferably licensed to practice before the USPTO.
  • Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of drafting complex patent documentation.
  • Advanced working knowledge of research principles and methods.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks under time constraints.
  • Familiarity with prosecution docketing systems.
  • Understanding of confidentiality issues and ethical responsibilities.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred; advanced degrees are advantageous.

Certifications

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Skills

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of time management software.
