Product Counsel
The candidate will work closely with various product management, engineering, business development, sales, and go-to-market teams to provide pragmatic and business-minded product counseling and legal support, including consideration of privacy, data protection, intellectual property, and regulatory issues. Will also play a meaningful role in crafting policies to help the legal team improve go-to-market motions and scale as company continues to grow and evolve its SaaS-focused business. General software product counseling to internal teams from the initial stages of product development to launch to post-sales creation of custom software, such as extensions and tools. Develop and maintain a repository of legal resources that are required to evaluate and manage intellectual property rights related to our software products and professional services engagements. Review and manage usage of open source and third-party software in products. Continuously improve yourself and the legal team by identifying and implementing improvements in processes, forms, and operations. Negotiate complex software license agreements in accordance with Legal Playbook and company risk tolerance. Must have California bar admission with 5+ years of proven experience at a premier law firm and/or in-house (the ideal candidate will have both law firm and in-house experience). Must have extensive software product counseling experience, including advising on privacy and cybersecurity issues as well as patent, open source, trademark, copyright, trade secret and other areas of intellectual property law relevant to software. Meaningful experience negotiating commercial transactions; specific experience with software licensing preferred. Must have ability to field emails quickly and prioritize multiple tasks at one time. Should have familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Google Docs, Gmail, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, DocuSign and Salesforce, but we will train a person who has experience with similar tools or an ability to learn.
