Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Hartford, CT, is seeking a skilled Patent Attorney to join its dynamic Intellectual Property group. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of patent-related tasks, especially in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device sectors, while supporting innovation strategy and intellectual asset protection for a diverse client base.

Duties:

• Assess new inventions for patentability across multiple scientific fields

• Draft, prepare, and file U.S. patent applications

• Manage domestic prosecution and oversee coordination with international agents

• Contribute to IP due diligence reviews and portfolio development strategy

• Perform in-depth legal and scientific research on intellectual property matters

• Interface with legal teams, clients, and R&D professionals on patent-related decisions

• Participate in cross-departmental initiatives and maintain communication with external counsel

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience handling patent prosecution in private practice or a corporate legal department

• Demonstrated expertise in life sciences technologies such as biotech, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• Admission to practice in at least one U.S. state (for attorney candidates)

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (or eligible to sit for the exam soon)

• Exposure to patent work in mechanical or electrical domains is a plus

• Ability to translate complex scientific information into clear legal concepts

• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology)

Certifications:

• U.S. Patent Bar registration or imminent eligibility preferred

• Active membership in a State Bar

Skills:
