A law firm seeks a motivated and detail-driven attorney to join its Restrictive Covenant Practice Group in Chatham, New Jersey. This full-time role involves a hybrid schedule, requiring in-office presence at the Chatham office at least two days per week (Wednesdays and one additional day). The associate will work alongside a collaborative team handling employment-related disputes for private-sector clients in New Jersey and New York.
Duties
Draft and file pleadings related to employment litigation matters
Manage all phases of discovery, including preparing and responding to written requests, organizing document productions, and coordinating depositions and mediations
Develop and oversee e-discovery protocols to ensure efficient data management
Perform substantive legal and factual research to support the case strategy
Prepare and respond to dispositive and non-dispositive motions
Attend court conferences, settlement discussions, and status hearings
Assist with preparation for Temporary Restraining Order and Preliminary Injunction hearings, including court attendance
Support trial and arbitration preparation and participation
Proactively manage case timelines, communicating regularly with team members and clients to ensure alignment on strategy and deadlines
Requirements
Minimum of 2 years of substantive employment litigation experience, including case management
Familiarity with restrictive covenant agreements is preferred, but not mandatory
Active admission to the New Jersey Bar; admission to New York, Pennsylvania, or Connecticut Bars is a plus
Proven ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously under time-sensitive conditions
Demonstrated aptitude for identifying and resolving issues promptly
Commitment to working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications
Admission to the New Jersey Bar (required)
Admission to New York, Pennsylvania, and/or Connecticut Bar associations (optional but beneficial)
Skills
Strong working knowledge of electronic discovery (ESI) procedures and tools
Exceptional legal writing and verbal communication abilities
Excellent research proficiency using legal databases and resources
Keen attention to detail in drafting and reviewing documents
Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate within a dynamic team
Capacity to manage client relationships and maintain proactive case oversight
