A law firm seeks a dedicated associate attorney to support its real estate finance practice in New York, NY. The successful candidate will counsel banking clients on sophisticated commercial lending matters and contribute to a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
Duties
Advise lending institutions on multifaceted commercial financing arrangements, including construction loans and long-term debt secured by various types of income-producing properties
Structure and negotiate loan documentation, such as credit agreements, security instruments, and related ancillary papers
Conduct thorough due diligence—reviewing title, surveys, environmental reports, and financial statements—to identify potential risks and recommend solutions
Guide clients through affordable housing financings involving tax-exempt bond issuances, tax credit syndications, and compliance with Section 42 requirements
Collaborate with internal teams (tax, regulatory, and litigation) to deliver well-rounded legal counsel on each transaction
Manage client communications and negotiate with borrower counsel to safeguard the bank’s interests
Mentor and assist junior team members on project work, fostering their development in real estate lending practice
Stay abreast of market trends, statutory amendments, and regulatory updates affecting real estate finance
Requirements
A minimum of four to six years of hands-on experience representing financial institutions in real estate lending transactions
Admission to the New York Bar in good standing (New Jersey Bar admission is a plus)
Demonstrated ability to handle complex deal structures and to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
Superior research capabilities and strong written and oral advocacy skills
Exceptional organizational aptitude with keen attention to detail and an ability to prioritize competing tasks
Professional demeanor, sound judgment, and a proactive mindset toward identifying and resolving issues
Capacity to work independently as well as in partnership with colleagues across practice areas
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school, with a strong academic record
Certifications
Active membership in the New York State Bar (New Jersey admission considered advantageous)
Skills
In-depth knowledge of real estate lending documentation and closing processes
Proficiency in drafting, negotiating, and analyzing complex commercial loan agreements
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interface effectively with banking clients and internal stakeholders
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to navigate nuanced financing and regulatory matters
