A law firm seeks a skilled Patent Agent to join its prestigious Intellectual Property team in Stamford, CT. This role is an excellent opportunity for an individual with experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications across various technological fields, including mechanical, electrical, and software technologies. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of patent law and be able to manage both domestic and international patent filings. Strong communication and technical writing skills are essential for working effectively with clients and colleagues.

Duties

  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications for both US and international filings in mechanical, electrical, and software technologies.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to strategize on patent portfolios and prosecution paths.
  • Perform detailed patentability assessments and provide opinions on freedom to operate.
  • Respond to office actions and communicate directly with patent offices.
  • Review and assess invention disclosures from clients, offering strategic insights.
  • Assist in managing client patent portfolios and maintaining filings and documentation.
  • Provide support in patent litigation efforts by researching relevant patent law and technical issues.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution, specifically in mechanical, electrical, or software technologies.
  • Strong understanding of the patent application process in the US and internationally.
  • Experience in preparing responses to office actions and handling patent office communications.
  • Ability to manage deadlines effectively and work in a fast-paced, client-oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear technical writing and client interaction.

Education

  • A degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Advanced degrees (Masters or PhD) in a relevant field are an advantage.

Certifications

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills

  • Proficient in patent prosecution tools and software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
