Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Senior Associate or Counsel with deep experience in CFTC, commodities, and derivatives law. This position involves advising clients on complex regulatory frameworks governing financial and energy markets. The role is suited for a legal professional who thrives in a collaborative, cross-practice environment and is looking to contribute to a top-tier Financial Services regulatory team.

Location:

• Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

• Advise clients on compliance with the Commodity Exchange Act and related CFTC regulations

• Provide counsel on commodity, swaps, and derivatives trading matters

• Draft and negotiate transactional and regulatory documentation

• Represent clients including dealers, traders, and end users in the financial and energy sectors

• Assist with regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings, including those involving FERC (preferred)

• Collaborate across legal teams on high-profile and cross-border engagements

Requirements:

• 5–10 years of legal experience in financial services or regulatory law

• Expertise in the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulatory structure

• Experience with derivatives and swaps documentation and negotiation

• Familiarity with FERC regulation of energy and power markets (preferred)

• Proven ability to support sophisticated financial sector clients

• Strong teamwork and matter management skills

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

• Deep regulatory knowledge of commodities and derivatives markets

• Advanced legal drafting and negotiation ability

• Strategic thinking and strong communication skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

• Familiarity with global financial structures and cross-border issues (a plus)
