Legal and Policy Intern – Spring 2021
Intern will work with a staff mentor to jointly identify a set of goals for the internship involving skills, knowledge, and/or experience. By the end of the program, intern will have had the opportunity to: Refine his or her skills, knowledge, and experiences in furtherance of said-goals; Engage with like-minded organizations and practitioners; and Better understand the role of civil society and nonprofit organizations like company in the MENA policy space. Track developments of relevance to company’s mandate, particularly in the legal, judicial, and accountability spaces (both in the MENA region and in the policy space). Provide policy support on company’s institution-wide advocacy priorities, including conducting background research and drafting memos and briefs. Conduct research to support the ongoing initiatives of Legal Unit, including but not limited to lawyers at risk, accountability and justice, and legal education. Assist in the drafting of legal submissions in coordination with partner organizations; and Help facilitate and support legal partnerships and convenings. Preference for a candidate who is pursuing or who has recently completed a JD, LLM, or foreign equivalent. Candidates pursuing other graduate degrees in related fields (including political science, international relations, journalism, etc.) welcome to apply. Familiarity with legal, judicial, and/or accountability-related issues in the MENA region is required. Must have familiarity with international law and/or human rights issues in the MENA region. Should have familiarity with policy issues preferred (can be U.S., EU, or UN policy). Preference for candidates who are proficient in Arabic (ability to read and understand).
