Job Overview:
A well-established law firm located in Greenwich, CT, is expanding its intellectual property team and seeks a skilled Patent Agent with substantial experience in the life sciences sector. This role involves supporting attorneys across a wide range of patent-related services, contributing to innovation protection and strategic IP initiatives across multiple technology domains.

Duties:

• Assess inventions for novelty and patentability in varied technical fields

• Draft and file patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

• Handle the prosecution of U.S. patent applications and coordinate international filings with foreign associates

• Participate in IP due diligence, competitive landscape analysis, and portfolio development strategies

• Perform technical and legal research supporting IP matters

• Collaborate with internal legal teams, scientists, and business stakeholders on patent strategy

• Engage with external legal resources to support coordinated IP initiatives

Requirements:

• Minimum 4 years of patent drafting and prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate IP department

• Demonstrated background in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical device sectors

• Registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, or eligible to sit for the Patent Bar

• Familiarity with mechanical or electrical technologies is considered an asset

• Strong analytical and scientific research capabilities

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills suited for cross-functional collaboration

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences-related discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related field)

Certifications:

• USPTO registration or demonstrated eligibility to take the exam in the near term

Skills:

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal setting

• Competency in patent landscape and freedom-to-operate analyses

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Technical proficiency with IP management tools and research databases
