Staff Attorney
The candidate will be responsible for: Advising on a broad range of contract matters related to a variety of areas/issues, including, technology agreements, strategic partnerships and alliances, leases, employment, faculty, grants, data privacy and security, intellectual property, and privacy laws. Plan, organize and conduct periodic compliance reviews in collaboration with constituent divisions, departments and units. Identify compliance risks and develop procedures aimed at detecting and remedying compliance problems and risks. Ensure that the institution has policies and procedures reasonably designed to satisfy existing or new legal obligations. Assist with the communication of key policies and other relevant aspects of compliance to staff, faculty and students. Coordinate the state authorization and gainful employment processes. Perform continuous monitoring of compliance and overseas contract issues and assist with university training in these areas. Ensure adequate records are maintained to document compliance efforts. Performing other job-related duties as assigned. Must have Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Should have admission to the Maryland Bar or immediate eligibility for admission. Must have 2 years of experience performing legal work; experience advising clients on a variety of matters. Should preferably have 3 years of experience performing contract matters. Performing legal work preferably in higher ed, lower ed/K-12, or state or local government. Should have excellent oral and written communication skills; strong research, analytical and project management skills. Must have experience with compliance and/or policy tracking technology. Knowledge of higher education law, military contract compliance experience a plus.
