Profile

A law firm is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Attorney to join their team in Knoxville, TN. The ideal candidate will manage a running caseload of contested and complex bankruptcy matters, including bankruptcy adversary proceedings. In addition to handling daily tasks such as discovery and hearing preparation, the attorney must possess a strong aptitude for accounting, information technology, and robust software programs. The role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, strong organizational skills, and an outgoing personality to effectively engage with clients and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of contested and complex bankruptcy matters, including bankruptcy adversary proceedings.
  • Handle daily legal activities such as discovery, motion practice, and hearing preparation.
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and briefs relevant to bankruptcy litigation.
  • Appear in court for hearings and actively participate in settlement negotiations.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and staff to ensure efficient case management.
  • Utilize accounting and information technology skills to enhance case management and client service.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing regular updates and professional legal advice.
  • Work with robust legal and business software programs to manage cases and streamline workflows.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Tennessee and in good standing with the Tennessee State Bar.
  • At least 3 years of experience in bankruptcy law, with significant exposure to contested and complex cases.
  • Familiarity with accounting principles and information technology systems.
  • Willingness to engage in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Skills

  • Strong aptitude for accounting and familiarity with financial documents in bankruptcy matters.
  • Proficiency in utilizing robust software programs for legal research, case management, and document drafting.
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to adapt and innovate within a legal setting.
  • Outgoing personality with strong interpersonal and client communication skills.

Certifications

  • Active Tennessee State Bar membership required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling bankruptcy adversary proceedings and contested bankruptcy cases.
  • Familiarity with business management software and accounting tools used in bankruptcy practice.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage client relationships and grow legal practice areas.
