A law firm is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Mid-level Intellectual Property Attorney to join their team in Alexandria, VA. The candidate will primarily focus on patent counseling, procurement, and opinions, with opportunities for licensing and enforcement. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in patent prosecution and a strong background in biology or biotechnology.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on effective intellectual property strategy options.
  • Prepare and prosecute complex patent applications.
  • Manage and prosecute a global patent portfolio across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Instruct foreign patent counsel in the prosecution of foreign counterpart applications.
  • Consult with inventors, technical experts, and patent portfolio managers to ensure robust patent filings.
  • Conduct patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement and invalidity analyses.
  • Provide detailed opinions on IP matters.
  • Engage in opportunities for patent licensing.
  • Support enforcement actions as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or MS in a biology discipline (e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, or biotechnology).
  • Minimum of 4 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Proven track record in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
  • Experience managing global patent portfolios.
  • Client counseling and opinion development experience.

 

Certifications:

  • Active USPTO Registration.
  • Good standing in the bar(s) where licensed to practice law.
