Tax Manager - Strategic Federal Tax Services - Research & Development
The candidate will adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality. Managers have the primary responsibility to ensure that R&D projects are conducted in accordance with firm standards and completed on time with on budget. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory skills. Prior supervisory experience is required. Managers will be expected to assist in conducting fieldwork. This may include visiting the client location, touring client facilities, investigating relevant facts, analyzing accounting information, preparing cost lead schedules and cost summary schedules, completing appropriate tax computations, and preparing written reports summarizing the findings. Typically some travel is required. Manager travel is typically 8 to 10 days per month. Travel is dependent on location, size of the local market, size of projects, etc. Managers are expected to have a command of federal and some state R&D rules and relevant court cases. Managers are expected to be able to train staff as needed. Managers will be required to communicate with clients both verbally and in written form. Managers will be required to multi-task and manage various project tasks at once. Project managers will be ultimately responsible for the overall project and deliverable. Managers are expected to initiate internal communication regarding status of tasks, relevant technical issues discovered, status of work load, expected due dates, etc. The tax consulting practice has less structure then the traditional audit and tax compliance practices. Managers must demonstrate the ability to succeed in a less structured environment. Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis. Other duties as assigned. Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA or JD/active law license required. Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred. A minimum of five years of experience in Accounting or Tax in public accounting or consulting. Intermediate understanding of tax return mechanics. Candidate should be familiar with and have experience with amending tax returns. Strong verbal communication. Candidate must demonstrate ability to clearly communicate verbally. Strong writing skills. Candidate must demonstrate ability to clearly communicate in writing. Time management. Candidate must demonstrate ability to manage time, multi-task, and meet deadlines. Critical thinking. Candidate must demonstrate experience in working as a productive member of a team. Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites. Candidate must be willing and able to travel approximately 8 to 10 days per month.
