Spring Internship
The internship program offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain real-world experience in government and politics. Over the course of their service, interns will gain a deeper knowledge of the federal government and strengthen their communications, writing, problem-solving, and time-management skills. Interns gain first-hand experience with the legislative process and other functions of a congressional office. Work closely with legislative, communications or scheduling staff, depending on track and interests, receive training from the Congressional Research Service (CRS), and learn how to use the Legislative Information System (LIS). Intern responsibilities will vary but may include; showing accessibility through radical hospitality; conducting policy research to be used for floor speeches, memos, committee hearings and other legislative business; monitoring press coverage of the Member, current events and House business; attending briefings and hearings; helping process constituent correspondence; and administrative tasks as assigned. Hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but they generally run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. when not in session. Will be expected to work at least 15 hours: one full day and two half-days.
Duration: January to May
Application Deadline: November 1
