This position offers the opportunity to represent high-net-worth individuals in complex federal, state, and local tax disputes at both administrative and litigation stages. A background as an IRS trial attorney is highly preferred.

Duties

• Represent clients in civil and criminal tax disputes at administrative levels and in court

• Handle IRS audits, appeals, and collection matters

• Engage with federal, California, and local taxing authorities

• Develop litigation strategies and manage case progression

• Prepare and review legal documents related to tax controversy

• Advise clients on potential outcomes and negotiate favorable resolutions

• Support the firm’s broader tax and estate planning teams as needed

Requirements

• Minimum of several years of hands-on experience in tax controversy matters

• Proven success in dealing with IRS and state taxing authorities

• Demonstrated ability to handle high-stakes client representation

• Commitment to maintaining a collaborative and collegial work environment

• Availability for full-time, in-office work

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

• Active and good standing membership with the California Bar

Skills

• Strong written and verbal advocacy skills

• Ability to navigate complex tax regulations and disputes

• Effective negotiation and case management skills

• Detail-oriented with excellent research and analytical abilities

• Comfort working with high-net-worth clients and sensitive matters

• Background in IRS litigation or government tax enforcement is a plus
